A golfing vacation at Lake Millstatt

Lake meets mountains

Lake Millstatt (German: Millstätter See) lies north of the Drava Valley, near Spittal, at 588 m above sea level. It is Carinthia’s second-biggest lake, after Lake Wörth. The region comprises eight municipalities. One of them is Seeboden, where you can find the 18-hole Millstätter See GC, the only golf course in the region. There are two golf hotels, both very close to the course.

reasons why you should spend your golfing vacation at Lake Millstatt

and why Carinthia and Lake Millstatt are worth a golf vacation

A wonderful golfing vacation is not just about beautiful golf courses and great golf resorts. It’s the “little things” that can make all the difference. Below you will find a list of further criteria to help you make your decision. Is there anything else you require for a blissful golfing vacation?

1

Granatium in Radenthein

The exhibition features a 300-metre-long mining tunnel, which provides visitors with a glimpse into the subterranean world of garnet gemstones. The tunnel leads past a small, clear lake, several pyrite and garnet veins and a small stage where concerts and theatre performances are held occasionally. Upon leaving the tunnel, the visitors enter the digging zone at the Kaninger mountain brook, where they can try their hand at digging gemstones.

2

Visit the Kaslabn cheese factory in Radenthein!

The factory and storage rooms with glass walls provide interesting insights into cheese production. The dairy’s own store showcases and sells all kinds of cheese made at the factory, as well as further dairy products and delicacies including bacon, tea and wine produced by local farmers.

3

Sommeregg Castle in Seeboden

Dine like a knight at the castle restaurant, experience history in the torture museum or watch mediaeval games with your family! Visitors to the castle can immerse themselves in the Middle Ages. Europe’s largest museum of torture impressively documents the development of law and physical punishment from the antiquity to early modern times, with the burning of witches, spiked chairs and thumbscrews.

4

Bonsai museum in Seeboden

Visit the ZEN gardens, inspired by classic Japanese archetypes and cultivated by gardening masters! The museum presents the world of bonsai on an exhibition area of more than 15,000 m². Many of the exhibits are more than 100 years old.

5

Garnet Gate on Millstätter Alpe

From the Lammersdorf lodge you can reach the Garnet Gate in one hour of hiking. The imposing gate is filled with thousands of gemstones. The Garnet Gate also symbolises the fact that the mountain contains the largest garnet deposit in the Alps.
