From a cow pasture to a leading golf course

The 14 founding members undertook to pay an annual membership fee of five schillings for the rest of their lives.
Six fairways ran across cow pastures, which repeatedly led to conflicts with the farmers. In 1937, the Austrian Golf Association had the course inspected. Yet even the president of the ÖGV, Heinrich von Kuh, was unable to persuade the farmers to relocate their cows.
A major milestone followed in 1993: after four years of negotiations with around 40 authorities and 28 holders of grazing rights, construction began on nine fairways with 18 greens and 36 tees. With two greens per fairway, the GC Achensee was the first club in Austria, the second in Europe and the sixth worldwide to implement this concept.

In 2004, the course was finally extended to 18 holes, and since 2022, extensive refurbishments have been carried out: a modern driving range and a spacious short-game area have since been added to the facilities.
Today, the Golf- & Landclub Achensee combines tradition and quality with an undisturbed experience of nature. The well-maintained fairways, the mature trees and the impressive backdrop between Lake Achensee and the Karwendel Mountains make every shot an experience. Even the cows have now been redirected from the fairways to the adjacent pastures.
