Interview with Florian Moosbrugger

Your host at the Hotel Post Lech

How does one go about developing a hotel steeped in tradition without losing its unique character? Florian Moosbrugger, owner and host of the Post Lech, offers insights into the hotel’s philosophy, the importance of golf for summer tourism and his vision for the future of the hotel industry.

Post Lech – Florian Moosbrugger (2)

If you had to describe the Post Lech to someone who’s never been here before: what makes the ‘Post’ special to you personally?

For me, the Post Lech is a historic, stately mountain inn with very authentic Alpine architecture and lots of lovely details. It is a warm, cosy place where you can feel at home — characterised by tradition, hospitality and a special atmosphere.

At the same time, the Post is not a museum, but a living, breathing place. Fine materials, craftsmanship, history and alpine elegance come together here to create a hotel that exudes a sense of security whilst still meeting the highest standards.

How does one manage to modernise a historic house without it losing its soul?

For me, the guiding principle here is: form follows function. Rooms must, first and foremost, meet the needs of the guests. They must be functional, pleasant and convey a sense of well-being.

It is important not to deny the historic core of a house. At the same time, however, one must also be bold and allow for contemporary materials, modern technology and new design. The key is the philosophy behind it: it must suit the house.

Luxury arises not only from spaciousness, but above all from quality in the details — through materials, light, proportions, atmosphere and the many little touches that a guest might not immediately name, but certainly senses.

Golf (c) Christoph Schöch – Lech Zürs Tourismus GmbH (1)

You were involved in setting up the Lech Golf Club. Why was it important to you to bring golf to Lech?

Lech is world-famous in winter. In summer, however, Lech is still an insider’s tip for many visitors. Our aim was, and remains, to further develop the summer season in terms of tourism, making it stronger and of a higher standard.

This requires appropriate infrastructure and facilities that suit the destination. Golf is part of that. The golf course in Lech-Zug blends beautifully into the landscape and offers our guests another opportunity to experience the Alpine countryside actively and enjoyably in summer.

POST.Michael Adair (final)-9

In your opinion, what will be the most significant change in the hotel industry over the next few years?

I believe that holiday hotels will increasingly become holistic leisure and experience destinations in the future. Guests are not just looking for a nice room, but for a well-rounded package: cuisine, nature, exercise, culture, spa facilities, socialising and special experiences.

At the same time, it is becoming increasingly challenging for individual establishments to create attractive offers all year round. That is why partnerships between hotels, destinations and leisure providers will become more important. Together, they can offer guests more and make a region more appealing throughout the year.

What is your personal wish for the future of the Post?

My wish is to carefully develop the services we offer our holiday guests whilst preserving the family atmosphere that has characterised the Post for generations.

The Post should remain a place where guests feel personally welcome — with warmth, quality and genuine hospitality. At the same time, I hope that we can hand the business over to the next generation in good condition and with a sense of joy, so that this story can continue.

A big thank you to Florian Moosbrugger for the fascinating interview and the candid, personal insights.
