Two days of golf with mountain views
A weekend in the Montafon shows just how well golf, leisure and quality time together can be combined. During his visit to Schruns, Gregor Lubina played at the Montafon Golf Club with his son and stayed at the Hotel Zimba.
His verdict: short distances, stunning mountain views and plenty of reasons to come back.
The Montafon Golf Club surprises visitors with a pleasantly flat 9-hole course, nestled amidst the Vorarlberg mountains. Instead of steep climbs, players are treated to sweeping views of the striking Zimba, the region’s 2,643-metre-high landmark.
Gregor Lubina and his son were so taken with the scenery that they played the course twice in one go. Hole 6 presents a particular challenge: at 554 metres, this par 5 is one of the longest of its kind in Western Austria. Long drives and a sound strategy are essential here.
From the fairway to the Hotel Zimba
After our round of golf, we headed to Hotel Zimba in Schruns. The golf course is just a few minutes’ drive away, which makes your stay particularly hassle-free. The Ladurner family, who run the hotel, create a warm, personal atmosphere, and the rooms offer views of the surrounding mountains.
After an active day, the wellness area – featuring a sauna, steam room and 15-metre indoor pool – provided the perfect opportunity to unwind. The weekend was also a memorable culinary experience: from breakfast and afternoon snacks to the six-course evening meal, the focus is on regional produce and Alpine cuisine.
A golf weekend that leaves you wanting more
An added bonus for hotel guests: according to the hotel’s offer, the green fee at the Montafon Golf Club is included. Vouchers for a 20 per cent discount on green fees at other golf courses in Vorarlberg are available from reception.
For Gregor Lubina and his son, the combination of relaxed golf, alpine scenery and warm, family-style hospitality was just the ticket. And even away from the golf course, the Montafon has plenty to offer: hiking trails, mountain bike routes and places to visit make the region a varied holiday destination.
