Why do you often hit the second golf ball better than the first? In this video, you’ll find out what changes between the two shots – and how you can prepare for the first ball more effectively.

Same golfer, same club, same tee: the first ball goes astray, but a few seconds later the second suddenly flies exactly in the desired direction.

Your golf swing hasn’t automatically improved in that short space of time. Often, three other things have changed: you have more information, your task is clearer, and you’re trying less to control the shot or prevent a mistake.

In this video, you’ll learn:

  • why the first ball provides important information
  • why your target is often clearer on the second attempt
  • how expectations and playing it safe can influence the first shot
  • why having too many thoughts about your swing makes execution more difficult
  • how to practise hitting good first balls on the driving range rather than just good runs of shots
  • how to determine your club, target and ball flight before addressing the ball
  • which training structure improves the transfer to the golf course

The most important exercise is: treat every ball on the driving range as if it were your first attempt. Step back, change your target or club, and start your preparation completely from scratch. After all, on the golf course you won’t get a series of identical repetitions.

Don’t practise the perfect second shot. Practise being ready for the first one.

💬 I’d love to hear about your experience:
Why does your second shot often turn out better?
1 – The first shot gives me the information I’m missing.
2 – My target is clearer on the second shot.
3 – I swing more freely on the second shot.

Write the relevant number or describe your specific situation in the comments.
