Lakes and mountains as far as the eye can see

There are 76 lakes to discover in the Salzkammergut. And one is more beautiful than the other.

An easy circular walk around the turquoise-green Fuschlsee lake or a trip to the Altauseer See lake are highly recommended. Mondsee, with its pretty village of Mondsee and the old castle with its 1000-year-old tradition of hospitality, is not only worth a visit because of the nearby golf courses, which are picturesquely situated between the mountains and the lake.

Hallstatt

Hallstatt is much more than an alpine cliché that has even been copied in China. Salt was mined in this beautiful power place 4,000 years ago. Today you can discover the oldest salt mine in the world here, as well as Celtic burial artefacts and the morbid ossuary, a collection of more than 600 painted skulls. A boat trip on the Navia across Lake Hallstatt is also very nice. This traditional wooden boat was once used to transport Hallstatt salt to the Danube.
