Why you play worse in tournaments
Your game works on the driving range. You play solidly in a private round. But as soon as it’s a tournament, everything suddenly feels different. The same swing, the same clubs, the same course – and yet your golf doesn’t come across on the course the way you’re actually capable of.
Why does this happen?
This video isn’t about yet another technical tip. It’s about the crucial difference between practice and competition: in a tournament, you’re not just playing golf – you’re playing golf under pressure. Every tee shot carries more weight. Every short putt feels more important. Every mistake immediately raises the question: ‘Is it happening again?’
Many golfers don’t play any worse in tournaments because they lack ability. Under pressure, they lose touch with their true ability.
I’ll show you why tournament pressure changes your thinking, your decisions and your swing – and why, in a tournament, you don’t need perfection, but the ability to act. You’ll discover why trying to avoid mistakes often makes your game tighter, and how you can regain stability with a clear objective, better pre-shot decisions and a planned response to mistakes.
If you play well in training but can’t perform in tournaments, then this video is for you.
These are precisely the areas we’ll be working on during the 2026 Golf Performance Weekends in Westendorf: right out on the course, in real playing situations, under real pressure, with clear routines, better decision-making and more stable responses after mistakes.
