Facts why you should choose a golf holiday on the outskirts of Salzburg

and why the region is worth a golf holiday

For a golf trip to be a success, you don't just need beautiful golf courses and great golf resorts. The "trappings" are also important. That's why you'll find further criteria here to help guide you. Your feature for golf holiday happiness is not included?
View of Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg with green lawns, winding pathways, sculptures, and a historical city backdrop, set against distant mountains.

Mirabell Palace

Baroque garden with beautiful photo motifs, hedge theatre, dwarf garden and Mirabell Palace: around 400 years ago, Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Reitenau fell in love with the beautiful Salzburg woman, Salome Alt.

The couple had 15 children and he built her this summer palace and garden, among other things. Even though their story ended tragically - Wolf Dietrich died in captivity at Hohensalzburg Fortress - the palace remained and was renamed Mirabell Palace and extended by Wolf Dietrich's nephew and successor, Markus Sittikus von Hohenems.
Today, couples are married here in the Marble Hall, lovingly and personally attended to by the Salzburg registrars. The Georg-Raphael-Donner-Prunkstiege can be visited at any time. In the Marble Hall, where Leopold Mozart and his children Wolfgang and Nannerl played music, very atmospheric palace concerts often take place in the evenings.

Mozart's residence

From 1773 to 1787, the Mozart family lived in the "Tanzmeisterhaus" on today's Markatplatz.

Today, the spacious 8-room flat offers a variety of Mozart experiences, with exhibitions, concerts and lectures. Mozart's birthplace in Getreidegasse can also be visited with a combined ticket. Mozart's birthplace was owned by the Hagenauer merchant family, who sold culinary delicacies in their speciality shop on the ground floor. The two families were friends and supported each other. Through their (culinary) travel reports, the Hagenauers were able to give the archbishop first-hand accounts of what was "en vogue" at other courts, for example in London.

Fortress Hohen Salzburg

A classic attraction when visiting the city of Salzburg is the fully preserved castle complex from the 11th century above the rooftops of the city.

You can get to the top either on foot or comfortably via the fortress railway. A walk around the grounds is an experience in itself. Even more impressive are the special guided tours, such as the atmospheric evening tours or the guided tour to the secret corners on Thursdays. Here, young historians talk about life in the Middle Ages and let visitors peek behind closed doors, which is otherwise strictly forbidden as parts of the fortress are still inhabited.

Siemens Festival Nights

In August, the city of Salzburg is in world culture mode.

The famous Salzburg Festival attracts culture lovers from all over the world. For all those who have not managed to get hold of one of the exclusive tickets, a large screen is set up on Kapitelplatz - between the cathedral and Festungsberg - where operas and concerts from current and past festival performances are shown daily. Admission is free, but for security reasons, tickets must be reserved in advance.
Alternatively, a seat in the restaurant tent with a view of the screen can also be reserved. Larger menus must be consumed for popular opera performances.

A very exciting tour of the former prince-archbishop's centre of power: state rooms of the Residence, Residence Gallery, Cathedral Museum and Museum of St. Peter's Abbey.

Especially for hot summer days: Hellbrunn Palace and trick fountains

Prince Archbishop Markus Sittikus built this palace with its large park over 400 years ago as a place of pleasure. This is still true today, for example during a visit to the trick fountains, the palace or a picnic in the large park.

As this complex is located just outside the city, we recommend the Salzburg highlight package "Boat trip to Hellbrunn Palace incl. Waller games & historic double-decker bus".
