Count the number of strokes

A question from a reader:
I have a rules question: we are a group of golfers who meet every Monday to play. We want to play a game system that is similar to the counting game, but does not count until the ball is holed as is usual in club championships. Is there a way to pick up the ball and write down a number of strokes if no more Stableford points can be achieved? For example, 10 strokes for par 5 holes, 8 strokes for par 4 holes and 6 strokes for par 3 holes. Would this be officially possible or just a private solution for our group? We currently have a need for discussion within the group and want to know whether a counting game must always be played to the last hole. Of course, it's mainly about the "beginners" who get frustrated when very high scores are recorded. I look forward to an answer.

Yes, there is this possibility: Maximum Score

Rule 21.2

21.2a Overview of maximum score
Maximum score is a form of scoring game in which the match director limits the number of strokes a player or party can hit to a maximum number of strokes, for example
double par, a fixed score (6, 8, 10, etc.) or net double bogey.
Rules 1-20 for counting play apply as modified by the following special rules. Rule 21.2 has been written for
-gross tournaments, but can also be adapted for net tournaments and
-singles, but may also be adapted for tournaments with partners as modified by Rules 22 (foursomes) and 23 (fourball) and for team tournaments as modified by Rule 24.

21.2b Result for maximum score
(1) A player's score for a hole. A player's score on a hole is determined by the actual strokes played (strokes played including penalty strokes), with the special feature that the player only receives the maximum score, even if the actual score exceeds the maximum score.
A player who, for whatever reason, does not hole out in accordance with the rules receives the maximum score for the hole.

To encourage speed of play, players will be asked to stop playing a hole as soon as their stroke count reaches the maximum score.

The hole is completed when the player has holed in or decides not to hole in or when their score has reached the maximum score.

I wish you and your round a great golf season.
