Lake Achen

Golfing on Lake Achen

The Achensee GC is not just the oldest golf course in Tyrol (opened in 1934), but also one of the best-known and most beautiful 18-hole golf courses in the Tyrolean Alps. The flat golf facility begins in the village and takes golfers into a nature paradise of mountain pastures and old forests – with views of the near Karwendel mountains.

The golf region around Lake Achen (German: Achensee) has much to offer. Its wonderful combination of golf, lake and mountains makes for heavenly golfing vacations. With a length of 10 km, Lake Achen is the largest swimming lake in Tyrol – and its water is pure enough to drink. You can go sailing or surfing or you can take a cruise on the lake to admire the play of colours on the crystal clear water. The Karwendel and Rofan mountains provide a picturesque scenery for the region’s two golf courses and also form one of the largest and most important natural reserves for ibex, chamois, marmots, golden eagles and many other rare animals and plants. This landscape of pristine mountains and valleys extends over 920 km², all the way to Bavaria, and offers visitors a unique enjoyment of nature on more than 100 Alpine pastures.

The second golf facility in the region, the 9-hole golf course Alpengolf in Achenkirch, is located on the other side of the lake and is perfect for a round of golf while your kids explore the Lake Achen Adventure Park or the Atoll Achensee spa.

If you have been a little too ambitious on the region’s two golf courses, we recommend trying the unique Tiroler Steinöl® (shale oil). It is extracted from oil shale mined 1500 metres above Lake Achen and contains active ingredients derived from prehistoric sea creatures and plants. The oil is a traditional elixir for aching joints and muscles. At our golf hotel on Lake Achen you can test and purchase several Tiroler Steinöl® products.
