Golfing vacations in the Pongau region
The Pongau is a mountainous region in the south of the province of Salzburg. It borders on the Tennengau region to the north, the Pinzgau region (Zell am See) and the Bavarian region Berchtesgadener Land to the west, the Carinthian district Spital an der Drau to the south and the Lungau region to the east.
There are four 18-hole golf facilities in the Pongau region: the Radstadt GC in the east, the Gastein GC in the south and the Goldegg and Open Golf St. Johann GCs in the west.
The golf hotels in the Pongau region provide a wide range of golfing vacation options. The Radstadt GC, for instance, features two golf hotels next to the golf club, offering rounds of golf with the hotel manager, golfing excursions and greenfee discounts at their partnering golf facilities. In Goldegg you can enjoy a golfing vacation on the shore of a beautiful lake. Another six golf facilities are within a short driving distance from the Pongau region.

The Eisriesenwelt in Werfen
A huge, unique cave system that has been one of Salzburg’s most popular tourist attractions for many decades – and rightly so!
The Eisriesenwelt is a labyrinth of caves with a total length of more than 40 kilometres. Cave ice can develop in different ways. The Eisriesenwelt is a dynamic ice cave, meaning that its galleries and fissures form a link from lower entrances to higher openings. This creates a draught – as in a chimney.
Depending on outside temperatures, the temperature inside the cave may be cooler or warmer, causing an air draught from top to bottom or vice versa due to the specific weight differences of the air. In the winter, when the air inside the cave is warmer than the air outside, cold air enters into the passages and cools the lower part of the cave to sub-zero temperatures.

Hohenwerfen Castle
Experience the Middle Ages firsthand!
This castle is more than 900 years old and situated on a steep rocky peak high above the Salzachtal valley with a view of the surrounding summits. Hohenwerfen Castle was built under Archbishop Gebhard in 1077. The original castle consisted of simple wooden structures, which were expanded and fortified over time. It was not until the 15th century that Hohenwerfen Castle reached the dimensions of today’s main castle.

The Liechtensteinklamm gorge is one of the longest, deepest and most impressive gorges in the Alps. The powerful roaring of the waterfall, the moss-covered rocks, the legendary atmosphere and the rainbows created by rays of sunshine hitting the fine spray all add to its fascination.

Mining museum & tunnel on Mount Hochkönig
The mining museum at the Kulturzentrum Knappenheim in the heart of Mühlbach am Hochkönig features a display tunnel as well as a mine railway and is a great excursion destination for any weather. The museum houses artefacts of 4000 years of copper mining history. After exploring the museum with its extensive mineralogy section and its changing special exhibitions, visitors can take guided tours of the display tunnel to learn interesting facts and gather insight into the history of mining from the early Bronze Age to the Modern Era.
