Preparation of the equipment
The best players are constantly looking for the best equipment to make their golf easier - you should try to do the same! The confirmation that you are travelling with good equipment can have a strong influence on your thinking. ⛳
The right clothing is also an important aspect. Have you ever experienced what it feels like when your polo shirt doesn't fit properly, is perhaps a little tight or keeps slipping out of your trousers during your swing? This can be extremely distracting and affect your concentration.
The choice of shoes is also a big issue: it is extremely unpleasant to go out for a round in new shoes and have blisters on your feet after just a few holes. It is therefore advisable to break in new shoes in training first so that they fit perfectly during matches.
One piece of advice I always give is to prepare for all possible scenarios during training. For example, train once in your rain suit to get a feel for how you swing with a rain jacket and get used to it. If you only get into this situation while you're competing in a tournament and it's raining, it's too late to adjust.
You should also try playing or swinging with a cap and maybe even sunglasses. There's nothing worse than being confronted with discomfort on the course that could disrupt your rhythm. Sometimes even a golf glove can cause problems. In any case, it is advisable to be prepared for the fact that equipment has a significant impact on performance.
You might be wondering what all this has to do with the mental aspect? In my opinion, quite a lot! If the circumstances are not right, it is more difficult to perform well. The fact is that you can change and correct many things in advance to optimise your game. Complaining afterwards or asking what the problem was is no longer helpful.
It is wiser to try out many things and learn which circumstances are optimal for you personally, what is good for you and what makes you feel comfortable. This way you can find out what your training should look like in order to achieve what you have set out to do.
Organisation is also important. Do you have everything you might need in your golf bag? Make a checklist of what should be in your golf bag. It pays to be well prepared!
