Skiing & Golf – one holiday, two worlds
When winter is still showing its sporting prowess in the mountains and lush green fairways are already beckoning down in the valley, one of the most fascinating times of the year begins in the Alps. Ski & Golf combines two seemingly contrasting sports into a unique holiday experience – ideal for ambitious sports enthusiasts who do not want to compromise on their precious holiday time.
In some regions, this unique combination is not only practised but celebrated with extraordinary events. For example, in Zell am See-Kaprun every year, international athletes gather for the Ski & Golf World Championship, where competitors first battle it out for the fastest times in the giant slalom on the slopes of the Kitzsteinhorn, before moving on to the Leading Golf Course Zell am See-Kaprun at the courses Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe, with views of glaciers and the mountain landscape, is all about precision and tactical skill. The contrast between snow and green makes this event a sporting highlight with international appeal.
Equally steeped in tradition is the International Ski & Golf Competition in the Gastein Valley. Since 1969, the transition from winter to summer sports has been celebrated here – on slopes in the mountains where snow is guaranteed and at the historic Golfclub Gastein in the valley. Former ski stars and ambitious amateur athletes line up together at the start. A particularly nice touch: for the net scoring in the giant slalom, seconds are deducted for the participant’s age.
But ‘Ski & Golf’ isn’t just an experience at events. Sporting enthusiasts also enjoy this extraordinary combination on their own: swinging on the snow in the morning, teeing off on well-maintained fairways in the afternoon. The high altitude of many ski resorts in Tyrol and the SalzburgerLand guarantees excellent conditions well into spring – both on the slopes and on the golf course.
