reasons why you should spend your golfing vacation in Carinthia

and why Carinthia is worth a golf vacation

A wonderful golfing vacation is not just about beautiful golf courses and great golf resorts. It’s the “little things” that can make all the difference. Below you will find a list of further criteria to help you make your decision. Is there anything else you require for a blissful golfing vacation?

1

Eighteen holes of golf will tell you more about your fellow players than nineteen years spent in the same office.

The province of Carinthia boasts 12 exceedingly beautiful golf courses.

Most of these golf courses offer fabulous views of at least one of the region’s many swimming lakes (with water temperatures of up to 28°C) and the surrounding mountain sceneries.

2

Lake Wörth

Is the largest lake in Carinthia and at the same time one of the warmest alpine lakes.

Lake Wörth (German: Wörthersee) lies south of the Alps in Carinthia. Its water temperature can reach 28°C in summer. The lake is famous for its greenish-blue colour, especially during the summer months. On a hot day, the lake may even appear whitish.

3

Hochosterwitz Castle

Is a high castle and a landmark of Carinthia.

A 150-metre-high limestone rock, visible from all the surrounding mountains, rises up in St. Georgen am Längsee. Its top is adorned by the beautiful and imposing castle of Hochosterwitz. The castle provided protection to the local population in the Middle Ages. Today it is one of Carinthia’s most popular tourist attractions.

4

Klagenfurt

Klagenfurt lies at the heart of Carinthia. It is the capital of the province and the sixth-biggest city in Austria.

Its historic city centre with Italian cultural treasures, museums and the city theatre is always worth a visit. We recommend taking a walk along the Lendkanal, a channel connecting the city centre with the eastern shore of Lake Wörth.

5

Carinthian cuisine

“Kärntner Kasnudeln”

The culinary diversity of the region between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea is reflected in Carinthian cuisine. Local specialties include Kärntner Kasnudeln and Kärntner Reindling. Kärntner Kasnudeln are made from a thinly rolled pasta dough, with a filling of curd cheese, potatoes, butter and chervil. Kärntner Reindling is a typical Carinthian pastry that consists of a yeast dough with sugar, raisins and cinnamon.

6

Obir stalactite caves

The Obir stalactite caves are located in the region around Lake Klopein in southern Carinthia, at an altitude of 1078 metres above sea level. The impressive stalactite structures that were formed by surface water seeping in over many thousands of years are a stunning spectacle of nature.

7

Pyramidenkogel

Carinthia from above

The Pyramidenkogel is the world’s highest wooden tower and offers a breathtaking view of Lake Wörth and all of Carinthia. It is 100 metres high and has 3 observation platforms, the highest of which is about 71 metres above the ground.

8

Großglockner High Alpine Road

An adventure on 48 kilometres!

The Großglockner High Alpine Road is Europe’s best-known scenic road and runs through one of the world’s greatest natural landscapes. The road’s many attractions include flowering alpine meadows, fragrant mountain forests, imposing rocks and the perennial ice of the glaciers.

9

Velden, casino

Rien ne va plus

The city of Velden lies on the shore of Lake Wörth and is very popular with partygoers and lifestyle enthusiasts for its many cafés and bars. The casino in the city centre attracts many visitors as well. Velden is also famous for its GTI and Harley Davidson conventions.
